One quick tidbit

April 3, 2008

I am loving David Archuletta of Idol this season. He is presh and humble not to mention a talent that will surely carry him into the finals. I have loved him since the beginning and always thought he seemed familiar. His cute closed mouth smile makes my soul sing and it was recently when I realized why.

this is….american idol! (the girls)

February 21, 2008

I’m always more passionate about the boys but this year there are a few girls I am way into.

carly.jpg

Carly Smithson a.k.a. The Irish Gothic Princess. I have to like her for Margie, but I would anyways. She is awesome! Best vocal of the top 24 so says Randy. But she is getting over hyped I think.

Amanda Overmyer seems super neat and rocker-ish. I like her. But I wonder if she can sing a tender love song? I hope so.

brooke.jpg

I like this preshie one. I feel she could be a super neat singer/songwriter type. Carole King-ish.

asiah.jpg

She is too good! And her father died a few days before she auditioned, so there’s that.

Everyone else was pretty much a snoozer so who knows who’ll be going home. I think Amy Davis or Davies or whatever…she blew it.

It’s been awhile… But Idol brings out the secret and passionate blogger in me and seeing as tonight marks the first of the “real” performances, I figured I’d write a quick post. This season is sure to be a good one and I have some definite early faves… here they are for the boys. (girls tomorrow)

ABSOLUTE FAVES

david_a.jpg

Are you joking me? This preshy angel touched a chord in this lady’s soul when he sang “Heaven” during Hollywood week. I cannot properly convey how much I love this song. Elliot Yamin also sang it two seasons ago and I didn’t think it could get better. But. It. So. Did. David is so adorable and he can sing. I didn’t absolutely love his performance tonight but I am still on a contact high from the “Heaven” performance, and that little smile is too much.

Get over it! This cutie pie caught my eye when he first auditioned in San Diego when he sang a soul tune. He’s a bit of a dreamboat + Australian accent + lives in Georgia = neat times for all involved. When he sang Bohemian Rhapsody during Hollywood week, he won me over. Tonight was awesome. And he could be a rockstar tomorrow is he wanted.

POSSIBLE CONTENDERS

david_c.jpg

Seems neat and rocker-ish without trying too hard. Like his voice and I think he will do neat things to songs, like he did tonight with “Imagine Me and You.” He seems like a normal, likable dude. I am eager to see what he does…

jason_c.jpg

Wow. I never saw him in the auditions or in Hollywood week. I really liked him tonight, good song choice and it seemed effortless. He could easily already be famous.

GOING HOME:

Luke Menard and Jason Yeager. Snoozeville.

You’ve really let me down this time America

May 3, 2007

So as you may have noticed I haven’t “blogged” (nerd alert) about Idol in awhile. I have been generally okay with the way things were going for the last few weeks. We got rid of Haley “Devil Woman” Scaranato and, of course, Sun-gina. But tonight’s show has me a little worked up. I can’t say I was all that surprised, I saw this coming. But, that doesn’t make it hurt any less.

In a horrific turn of events Dreamboat and my future husband (if I don’t marry Anthony), Chris Richardson was voted out BEFORE Jordin Sparks. There are many reasons I do not much care for Ms. Sparks (if that even is your real name) below I have a compiled a list of a few of them.

1) Her huge horsey smile with what appears to be mouth full of chiclets

2) Her fake crying for the camera. Here’s a thought; if you can’t convey actual sadness just be respectful and stoic. Instead she is hamming it up. Like tonight when they showed her “crying” as Phil Stacey performed for the last time. She was just making a horrible fake crying face but no actual tears were falling. Jesus Jordin! Even Margaret can fake cry! The camera then panned to show the precious angel Kiki/Lakisha who was actually crying and was wiping away the salty tears. She wasn’t acting people. That was real emotion. And that is why that woman is a class act. (I’ve never used the term “class act” but it seems to fit here, I mean if Kiki isn’t a class act than I don’t know who is).

3) She sings at anti-abortion rallies. I believe in a woman’s right to choose Jordin. Stay THE F out of my uterus!

So let’s get it right next week America. Let’s get rid of Jordin so we can end with a respectable final 3. Thank you and good night. Please take a moment to enjoy my visual aids below.

Top 12…

March 14, 2007

Well, last night was the first AI episode on the big stage with the huge audience. It was exciting. And awkward as always. Melinda and Lakisha (Ki Ki) are still kicking everyone else’s asses. I’ll be surprised if either of them EVER screw up. For the guys, I enjoyed both Blake and Chris Richardson and they are my favorites for the dudes so far.

Here’s a quick recap of each performance.

Brandon: awful. definitely in the bottom 3.

Melinda: Wonderful, also loved her dress!

Chris Sligh: Paula (shockingly!) said it best; “you’re trying too hard to be a super hip guy.” Beautifully coherent Paula.

Gina: Didn’t much care for it.

Sunjaya: This kid is amazing. Every time I think it can’t possibly get anymore awkward, and yet, it does! He’s definitely the most androgynous contestant ever. I think he’s this year’s pity vote and could be around for awhile. My advice to him is stop the gentle whispers and start singing.

Haley: (aka Devil Woman) Stop crying girlie!  Keep it together woman, you’re falling apart in front of our eyes. I’ve decided you are poor man’s Katherine McPhee.

Phil: Not the best but he is likable enough, he could stick around for awhile and I’d be fine with it.

Lakisha: Sensational.

Blake: I liked what he did (it was what Chris was trying to do). I enjoy Blake.

Stephanie: Another snoozer from Stephanie. I think she should be in the bottom 3.

Chris Richardson: Love him! He’s rapidly becoming my fave. And he is a little (southern!) cutie.

Jordin: She can sing, I will give her that. But I thought the whole thing felt a little cheeseball. I think she is starting to annoy me. She’s too smiley, laying it on a bit t hink, eh? Probably a raging bitch in reality.

So bottom 3; Brandon and Stephanie def, not sure who the third will be. Maybe Sligh?

The Queen of Pointless

Well the Top 12 was annouced last night. No big surprises there. I was glad Sundance got the boot but I sort of hoped that Jared would get through so I could look at him a little longer. As far as the girls are concerned, I have to admit, I was shocked that the above specimen made it through.

You win America, I will never, ever understand you. Haley simply cannot sing. At all. I think Antonella ran circles around her in both singing and star quality. This just proves my point about the possibility of that song being christian, perhaps the Christian Coalition (aka The Middle) rallied behind her because of that. They also probably noted the lack of whiteys in the Top 12 so they could have been a factor. White America coldn’t have that. (these are the same people who rallied behind Deeeeana DiGarmo who was a piece of shit, just because they didn’t want the American Idol to be an un-wed black mother)

She reminds me of someone who would have gone to college with me; she would have been a member of the service “fraternity” (not a real fraternity) and she would have sung Faith Hill’s Breathe at the talent show and she would have given my friends and I the evil eye when she saw us smoking in front of the student center. My point is; I HATE her. And here’s to hoping she’s the first one offed.

AI – gut lockers

March 8, 2007

At this point I’d say the competition is really only between Melinda and LaKisha. They are a different world from everyone else. After those two, I think Jordin is pretty okay and I actually thought Gina did better last night even thought she is the worst kind of poser who probably exclusively shops at Hot Topic. Evanesence Gina? Really? I guess Sabrina Sloan has a good voice but she is like a lady robot and has a tragic nose. They keep saying Stephanie Edwards is good, but she’s a snoozefest if you ask me. Then that leaves the two worst – Antonella Barba and Haley Scr-whatever. Those two are pathetic. I have a feeling Antonella will get through, I think people like her. She did the best she had ever done but it was nothing great. Haley was awful. I can’t believe she’s even still around. Was that even a real song? It stunk of Christian music to me. I think Haley and Stehpanie will go.

TOP 12 TONIGHT…now the fun begins!

Greatest Idol performances ever?

March 7, 2007

It seems EW.com has put together a top ten of which I’d like to add a few of my own personal faves that come to mind.

1. The most obvious overlook is Carrie’s rendition of Alone which maybe be the greatest Idol performance ever. Seriously.

2. When Constantine sang I Can’t Make You Love Me. Perfect song selection.

3. Kimberly Caldwell singing Come to My Window. This was back in the dark ages when the contestant were only accompanied by a piano in the begining now they have a full gd band! and back up singers! it’s too much!

5. Good ol’ LaToya London singing Somewhere I love Westside Story! (note the awkward and pointless celeb judge, Am I too believe the fact that it is movie night is enough of a connection? Because I don’t)

6. Clay doing Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. I love this song. And loved him doing it because he could be cheesy in this one and it wasn’t overkill. Well maybe it was but it was good overkill.

AI – nether rods

March 7, 2007

I’m trying to think back to this time last season? And I’m trying to remember how I felt. Because to be honest, while I love wtaching the show, I don’t actually 100% head-over-heels love any of the male contestants. Where is the Eliott? The Taylor? The Bucky? I’m hoping it will come as the season progresses. Please will someone sing something that inspires me!

Here’s my hopes for the top six; Chris Richardson, Blake Lewis, Phil Stacey, Sunjaya Malakar, Jared Cotter, Brandon Rodgers. (Sundance and Chris Sligh get voted off, which I know won’t happen but a gal can dream).

Two quick things; Sundance please stop screaming at me. Sunjaya leave your hair alone you look like a lady.

AI – squish mittens

Lakisha Jones. Wow, cool it lady. She rocked my entire world and brought tears to my eyes. I love her! She must have picked my favorite song on purpose, it was weird that she didn’t dedicate it to me though. She is my #1 by a mile. After that; I like Melinda Doolittle and Jordin Sparks. I guess logic tells me Sabrina Sloan and Stephanie Edwards are “good” but they haven’t moved me yet.

I could really spend quite awhile talking about the bad people a.k.a. the whiteys. The first and most glaring error was Gena “Hot Topic’ Glockson singing Alone. Is she high? Maybe she wants to get voted off so she is purposefully pointing out how shitty she is in comparison to Carrie’s best vocal ever. (I STILL get the chills; 2 years later) The song should be retired into the Idol Hall of Fame and should remain off limits, like a retired sports jersey. So I hope she is one of the doomed. The next most offensive was Alaina Alexader. Is she even talented? Or just pretty? Alaina stop! My ears are bleeding! I hope she goes bye-bye also.

Antonella “BJ” Barba, Leslie Hunt and Haley Scarnato were all equally awful and forgettable so any of them could go also.
