The Living Room, part 1 of 9

It has been taking awhile to get our living room all set. But recently, things have been happening and the wheels are in motion. Last week I finally finished painting Margie’s old bookshelves (a fun bright avocado green) and we got a very festive and colorful striped rug from C&B (on sale mind you). So things are coming together slowly; I have lots of plans and schemes and will reveal them here as they unfold. But for now; here’s a snippet of our living room. These are said booksehlves (still figuring out which knick knacks to display, and how to display them), you can also see a wee bit of the new carpet, the infamous TV stand and the JC Penny linen stoarge trunk thingy. Decision? Made.

The whole TV-stand-debocle was solved today with a trip to The Door Store on 17th street (mom’s suggestion). We decided on something nice and simple.

BTW: The Door Store doesn’t sell doors so it’s pretty much the stupidest name ever.

I can’t make decisions!

So you people have to help me. Ant and I got a big kid TV last weekend. It’s a 42″ Samsung LCD (apparently to some people that means something). I am of course way more concerned about getting a piece of furniture to put it on. I can’t find anything I like or like enough. I could never be an interior decorator because I am too fickle. Here are some options this I kind of sort of ish like…

This is a Crate & Barrel number, WAY too expensive but I like the look of it.

I like this one (with white doors) from West Elm, but it only hold up to a 37″ flat screen…

So they also have something similar but it’s called a “modern storage console.” Can you put a TV on it? Are you allowed? I don’t know the rules!

So you know how these things go. The TV is sitting on the floor now and if I don’t get something soon it’ll probably sit there for another month or two. Help me! What should I do?

Am I grown up?

I’ve been wondering lately…am I all grown up? Some signs point to yes.

1) I live with a boy.

2) The newspaper comes to our house every weekend.

3) When Jessica told me she was out until midnight on a week night, my eyes got big.

4) I spend more time online shopping for furniture and home stuff than I do for clothes. Well,.. at least as much.

4) I happily spent $150 (on sale) on an ottoman/storage bench (see pic) for “spare linens.” (I actually used that phrase)

Well, Ant and I are officially in our new place. It’s pretty great. We still have mountains of unpacking and settling to do but here are the first two official photos. I’ll show more when things look better. But for now, here’s a taste of the kitchen…
